About Us
Helping Hands Ministry
Mick and Marsha began their journey in 2002 entering a 2-year training school in McLennan County…
There, they learned about different cultures, how to adapt to them, church planting, evangelism, discipleship, and Bible Study. After completion, they moved to Sri Lanka. Over the span of 2 ½ years, along with a small team, built 85 tsunami homes for 3 villages that had been displaced by the devastating tsunami of Christmas 2004.
Mick was the head of the construction crew made up of the nationals, and Marsha was the acting CFO. After the houses were completed, they began a sewing factory for national women, teaching English in their home and a small school, along with starting a small church in their home. A major change over of the government after the tsunami made it impossible to stay in the country. So, after 5 years, they returned to the USA.
So, what did God have in the future for Mick and Marsha?
The president of their sending organization at the time requested that they take some time to pray about a property the organization owned in McAllen, Texas. It was a sprawling 5 acres with 9 cottages, a dormitory that held 20 beds on one side and 22 beds on the other, equipped with bathrooms on both sides. A large mess hall that could seat 100 with a kitchen.
The problem was the facility had been neglected since the 50s. Nothing had been done with it. They spent the next 5 years renovating each building, opening it up for short-term teams to come and serve pastors on both sides of the border. Which is where they attained much of their experience in building projects. Before leaving McAllen, God began to put Nepal on their hearts.

God’s plan for Nepal was simple.
They felt they were to go in faith and let God lead them to a church that they would help. God knit their hearts with a small fellowship where they worked with for 3 ½ years. Just 3 months after they arrived in Nepal, the massive 8.1 earthquake shook Kathmandu.
God impressed them to return home for 6 weeks and raise money for emergency housing for a village that was destroyed. They raised $97,000. Not being fund raisers; they knew this was God working. In the last 1 ½ years, they taught English in a pastoral training school along with bringing short-term teams to Nepal to help with the church they attended.
